WELCOME TO

Nursery 1 Mercury

Class Overview

Consisting of 12 children, the Nursery 1 Mercury is not familiar with the letters of alphabets, albeit being exposed to them. Through this lesson, Teacher Kang Ping hopes that children will be able to familiarise the letters through her facilitation.

Teaching Technique

Rationale for Facilitation

By facilitating, it allows teachers to decrease the chances of conflict and confusion so that children have consistent time and space for play. Children need to be seen as capable individuals who are able to construct knowledge in play settings with the support of teachers and interactions with their peers (Rice, 2017). For this age group (3 years old), teachers can assist by facilitating the children through the activity to ensure it is carried out properly while allowing children to have the freedom to play on their own.

How It Was Used During The Lesson

Teacher Kang Ping facilitated the children through guiding them when recapping the letters of the alphabets that they have learnt. Teacher Kang Ping also facilitated the activity by explaining what they will be doing for the activity.

How To Apply During Other Lessons?

Provide broad and open-minded materials which suit the different abilities and expand their thinking skills.

Encourage interactions during activities to construct knowledge between one another.

Design lessons with minimum restrictions to allow children to play freely.
