Assistant Preschool Teacher
Little Footprints Preschool @ 701A
May 2018 - July 2018
During my first practicum, I was assigned to the Nursery 2 class. I was required to be at the centre once a week for a period of ten weeks.
What Did I Do?
My main task was to observe one child using different observation records. Not only that, but I also assisted the host teacher during routine time and activities (i.e. showering and mealtimes). I also helped in preparing the resources for the lessons.

Skills I Have Developed:
Patience:
-
Since this was my first time being in a preschool setting as a practicing educator, I found it difficult to manage the class well. However, I reminded myself to take deep breaths and think of alternatives to get the children's attention. I also asked for advice from my host teacher on how she manages the class.
Communication:
-
I also learnt how to communicate with children in an effective way. I made sure to use short and clear sentences and used non-verbal cues such as hand gestures and eye contact. I also crouched down to the children's level.
Challenges I Faced:
A challenge I faced was doing my observation. It was my first time observing children. I kept asking questions to my tutor to clarify any doubts that I had. On top of that, the children in the class were distracted when they see me writing. To overcame this challenge, I told the children that they should be paying attention to their teacher instead of me.

What Did I Learn?
Through this practicum, I was able to experience the practical aspects of working in a preschool centre. I learnt how to be a reflective individual. I also learnt how to be more receptive when feedbacks are given. From these feedbacks, I am able to improve on myself to be a better educator.
